Tales of a Pagan Overachiever

Merry Meet and Welcome to yet another one of my many blog projects.  This one is different though, this is the one that sticks.  It’s also the one that will be more personal, more entertaining, and possibly a little controversial at times.  But before I get too ahead of myself…

Hi!  I’m Rowan Pendragon.  :)   I’m a Pagan and Witch and have been on my path, at this point, for 22 years.  I am currently a mostly solitary practitioner however I’m a very proud member of The College of the Sacred Mists, a group online that I’ve been with (off and on a few times) since 2002.  With the Sacred Mists I’m a First Degree Priestess and Second Degree Dedicant.  I’m also a mentor and a reader with Gypsies and the SMPDA as well as editor of the school newsletter “The Sabbatical”.  I do a few other things there but in truth I’ve been a bit lax these days with the Mists.  Life has gotten in the way and I’m trying to get back into the swing of things.  I have a habit of getting a little lazy and then it takes a bit to get me off track.  I’ve recently completed Levels 1 & 2 with Sacred Reiki in the Mists and am taking the Historical Paganism course.   I completed the Progressive Magic certification course with Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone in the Mists late last year.  And that’s not everything in the Mists!

I’m also an ordained Reverend, ordained Witch, Usui Reiki Master, and Faery Reiki Master.  I also was acting High Priestess of a public Pagan church and circle where I’m originally from for over a year and then was High Priestess of my own coven for close to 5 years.  I will openly admit that I’ve never trained and been initiated into a BTW (British Traditional Wicca) coven and I do not lay any claims to any lineage or anything of that nature.  I’ve always been a bit of an eclectic and never found a tradition that seemed to work for me or a coven that fit, but I would say that I’m much more of a traditional Witch at heart.  I believe that if you don’t practice Witchcraft or magick you’re not a Witch.  End of story.  Worshipping the Goddess and whatnot doesn’t make you a Witch it makes you a Pagan.  Calling yourself something doesn’t make you that thing; it’s not like I can call myself a doctor and all of a sudden I’m a doctor!
So yes, an overachiever who occasionally has some less than popular thoughts and believes within some parts of the Pagan community.  ;)

I work as a professional psychic and tarot reader and I’m always working to further my knowledge and experience in that field.  I’m currently preparing to attend a weekend-long mediumship class with Lisa Williams, one of my favorite psychics, and I’m also taking a crystal therapy class right now which will lead me to being certified as a crystal healer and lightworker (not a term I’m a huge fan of though) and then I’ll be set up as a member of the World Metaphysical Association as well.

I’m looking forward to chatting here, blogging away about my random thoughts about all sorts of things, and seeing what others might have to say.  Please interact in my blog!  You’re welcome to add your comments, good or bad!  I love to hear what others are thinking and what they have to say.  I’m sure there are things that I’ll have to say that some aren’t going to like, but I’m open to hear what others have to say.  But I’ll be talking about more than just Witchy things, I’ll be talk about my thoughts on other things and life in general.

I hope you enjoy the ride!

***Edit**  I forgot to mention, I’m also working on my Ph.D. in Metaphysical Counseling.  Yup, overachiever.  ;)

When it comes to the “crystal healer and lightworker” Let me give you another way to look at it. Light comes in many colors and energies. You are being trained to work with the Spectrum of Light that infuses Crystals, Minerals and Gems of all sorts. This makes you a Lightworker. While I personally am also not fond of this term, it is somewhat accurate since you are working with Light. ;)

HAHA! That’s so very true my sister. It a horrid stereotype that is seen by much of the world and is unfortunate. The only thing we can do about it is try to change their minds a little about what a Witch, Lightworker, Pagan etc is one entry at a time. ;)

I know what you’re saying, and I agree! I just hate the term “lightworker” because it seems so “New Agey, fluffy bunny” and I hate that. It conjurers up this image (for many anyway) of some aging hippie woman who’s very into all the trappings of the New Age movement, wearing 50lbs of silver and crystal jewelry walking around talking out loud to the Goddess and Faeries and talking about her womb is the center of the universe. I don’t know, it just makes me…cringe…*shudder*.
