So I’m starting today with my attempt to learn more about working with runes for divination and meditation by drawing a rune a day. Today I drew…

Algiz (or also Elhaz)
This is a really interesting rune to draw. I wasn’t really focusing on anything specific, just seeing what I might need to know, be aware of, etc. This is a rune that talks about communicating with spirit and the higher self. One of the other aspects of this rune is that of a warning of possible danger. The reason behind that and how it ties to the communication with spirit is in the possibilities for danger with such work and communication when someone isn’t fully prepared for such a thing or when the venture is taken on carelessly. The shape of the rune emulates the antlers of the Elk and also the idea of hands open in a stance of prayer and offering in ritual which is used in Asatru rituals but for me resonates more with what is called the Goddess Position in Wicca used for invoking the Goddess and for Drawing Down the Moon. So the position definitely gives me the connection to the idea of working with the higher divine self.
I did a little looking to see what other associations there was with this rune and since I’m so tarot minded I went to see what the tarot association might be for this and the one that seemed to resonate and make the most sense was The Hermit…going inward to seek connection to the divine and to spirit, to communicate with the mysteries and find the answers within.
So how does this fit for me? Well I am working a lot right now on trying to connect more with the spirit realm for the purpose of communication and doing mediumship on a more serious level. I also have started working with this Third Degree Entrance Assessment for Sacred Mists which certainly has me going more inward and connecting to spirit to try and gather my answers and find the connections to what I desire most from my work there. So I can see what this is tring to say to me…listen, connect and trust…but be careful, be prepared.
