The Hind
The Hind, Eilid in Gaelic, is a female red deer. In the case of our Celtic animal guides we look specifically to the white hind, believed to be from the faery realm, and carries the energies of subtlety, gracefulness and femininity.
Stories of the white hind in Celtic legend are vast and she is always tied to the faery realm or Otherworld because of her glowing white figure. It is believed that when the white hind is cast in sun or moon beams that this is an invitation to us to follow the hind and explore the Otherworld and the spiritual aspects of our life that we may have either strayed from or come to ignore. In legend the hind often leads man to where he needs to go but before he knows it the hind has vanished, presumably back to where she came from (often believed to be the faery realm) but before she’s vanished she’s lead the human to the spiritual place that he/she needs to be.
On the other side, the hind can also let us know that we may be spending too much time in the Otherworld and psychic realms, using it as a barrier to avoid things in our lives that we may not want to face and deal with. In my profession I see this all to often with clients that come day in and day out for readings about a single problem in their lives, always hoping to discover a new answer to their question, but never making the movement on their own in their lives to create change. It could be that the message for you from the hind is that it’s time to draw your attention back to the mundane and the physical world to deal with what awaits you there. But do not worry that you will lose touch with magickal realms and the Otherworld since the hind will always be there waiting to show you the way back when the time is right.
Today use the sign of the hind cast in sunlight to help open you up to the more subtle and graceful feminine energies in your life, regardless of whether you’re male or female, and listen to where she wants to take you. Is it time for you to follow her into the faery realms or time to travel the woods and reconnect with the Mother? Wherever it is that she may lead you, it is a message that it’s time to look beyond the physical world and start to see the deeper inner worlds, the spiritual realms, and open yourself up to receiving their messages and lessons more fully. Let you heart be open and take time today to meditate on the hind’s messages. This might also be a great time to do a guided mediation with the hind to see just where it is that she wants to lead you.
